The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), zone B, has staged a heavy protest on the ever busy Benin-Asaba highway, over poor funding of Nigerian Education.

The protest which commenced at the early hours of Wednesday, May 25, 2022, comprised students from all higher institutions in South-South, Nigeria.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Coordinator, NANS Zone B (South-South), Comr. Oghale Emeka Dio, NANS insisted that the UNESCO recommendation of 26% allocation to education by all developing nations to be adhered to, and thus, all the six states of the South-South Nigeria to implement the recommendation forth with.

The statement further reads: “…Federal Government to immediately honour agreement with ASUU/ASUP and re-open our institutions across the country and that the leadership of ASUU/ASUP should be ready to shift grounds for the benefit of Nigerian students who are at the receiving ends”

“…Federal Government to take actions on Eastern and Coaster Railway corridors running from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri and Calabar to Lagos respectively… Federal Government to take urgent steps towards fixing the roads so as to reduce to the barest minimum road accident and loss of life resulting from frequent road accidents”

NABCOTECH Digest reports that the angry protesters in their solidarity chants, re-affirmed that not until Nigerian campuses are open for educational purposes, they shall continue to grind down all ministries, Departments and agencies of the Federal Government with marathon protests and steady stampeding.
